#10. Zambia 🇿🇲

Zambia is one of the best safari destinations to visit in Africa. Due to border conflicts with the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo up north, Zambia could have ranked higher than its current position. It is much safer to visit Zambia than its position, the GPI suggests. However, there are several reasons for travelers to avoid areas far away from Zambia’s safari destinations and tourist attractions. Zambia is noted as a trouble-free country, and ranked as a Level 1 country by the United States Department of State, and advises that travelers are more than secure to visit the country.

#9. Madagascar 🇲🇬

Madagascar is unique and largely an underdeveloped island, highly rich in biodiversity, it accounts for nearly 70 percent of all newly discovered species. It is an ideal vacation for adventurous tourists seeking to be mesmerized by nature. However, visitors ought to be aware of crime in the streets of Antananarivo after dark. The country isn’t politically stable, and several travel agencies “recommend that you only travel the island with an organised tour company or hire a guide to take you around,” according to the Broke Backpacker.

The Kingdom of eSwatini (formerly Swaziland, and not to be confused with Switzerland in Europe), is one of the smallest countries in Africa. Landlocked between South Africa and Mozambique, it is another safari destination. eSwatini is pretty safe to visit, however, civil unrest does occur from time to time. Travelers are advised to “avoid protests, demonstrations, marches, and alert for signs of disturbances.” Especially in the capital, Mbabane, and Manzini.

“Indeed, hospitality is a cornerstone of Swazi culture and the average visitor’s experience is overwhelmingly a friendly and relaxed one,” according to Bradt Guides.

The country has a well-established tourism industry, and travelers are more secure than worried amid these arid challenges. Namibia is one of the safest countries in Africa to visit on your own. The British government states that The Gambia is a trouble-free country to visit, although visitors are warned about the lack of local support in case of an emergency. Travelers are advised to stay clear of the southern border area adjacent to Senegal’s Casamance region due to the potential presence of landmines, according to the US Department of State. The Gambia is indeed a traveler’s haven, but not an LGBTQ-friendly destination, as it is labeled a Level 3country, by the department.

Crime is of your least concern amid the arid Kalahari Desert, the driest place on Earth where the nomadic Bushmen thrive. Its often recommended for first-time visitors to Africa because of the country’s exceptionally friendly inhabitants. Ghanaians are best known for being hospitable, friendly, and warm-welcoming people to visitors. Cases of crime are very low, amid being a political and democratically stable country in Africa, and much of the world. However, authorities warn that travelers are to stay clear of borders in the north, where civil unrest is likely. Ghana is even known as “The Oasis of Peace.”

Mauritius is ranked the #1 peaceful country in Africa, and the safest to visit. In fact, Mauritius even outranks Spain (at #31), Italy (at #32), and the UK (at #33). This idyllic Indian Ocean island is very safe to visit by all standards. There are no travel safaris regarding destination trips, however, the island boasts of a variety of marine and avian species — from whales and dolphins to Mauritian kestrels (a … native there), and even giant tortoises. Well…, your safari got better. Mauritius is arguably low on crime, and it’s indeed a high-income earning country.
