They say everyone has a dark side. How true is that? Obviously, you have a shadow, don’t you? Kidding! Well, this refers to how bad of a person you are. You might not be a malicious villain as depicted in movies, and neither are you an angel, too. No judgment! There are chances you have at least some shady character that your friends don’t like — you’re a “terrible beast” in your own rite. Welcome To The Dark Side
The Short Dark Triad Personality Test is a 27-item quiz that’s meant to assess your “Dark Triad” personality traits. Basically, that’s how evil you are. The dark test was devised in 2011, and was first published in 2013 by researchers from the University of Texas at El Paso, and the University of British Columbia, Canada. The test is a short questionnaire that rates you on three aversion traits, collectively known as the “Dark Triad,” namely: Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy.
Before you take the test, we’d like you to take a crash course about the Dark Triad in the first place to begin with. According to the Open Source Psychometrics Project’s interactive quiz, here’s what each triad means:
#1. Machiavellianism is a tendency to be manipulative and deceitful.
It usually stems from a lack of respect or disillusionment for others.
#2. Narcissism is an egotistical preoccupation with self.
Because of all their experience with maintaining their self image, people who score high for narcissism will often appear charming but their narcissism will later lead to extreme difficulty in developing close relationships.
#3. Psychopathy reflects shallow emotional responses.
The relative lack of emotions leads results in high stress tolerance, low empathy, little guilt and leads them to seek extremely stimulating activities, resulting in impulsivity and a disposition towards interpersonal conflict.
How Dark Art Thou?
The Short Dark Triad Test is built from three different personality test of which each measures just one of the three traits. The MACH-IV, the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI), and the Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (SRP). The researchers came up with the idea of providing one quick test to assess all the dark triad with less time and similar results. So they devised a new test from the individual quizzes while accounting for similar rating standards and systems.
The results? Enter the Short Dark Triad Personality Test. The 27 statement test that rates you on a five-point scale based on how much you “agree” or “disagree” with each statement. The statements include things like the following:
- It’s wise to keep track of information that you can use against people later.
- I feel embarrassed if someone compliments me.
- People who mess with me always regret it.
- I know that I am special because everyone keeps telling me so.
- People often say I’m out of control.
- I like to get acquainted with important people.
The Dark Quiz
Well, taking the quiz won’t take you longer than 5 minutes, and after you rate all 27 statements, you’ll be ranked alongside other quiz takers. This means you’ll know how bad you are in comparison with your friends. How dark could it be? Well, your score for each trait is a number ranging between 0 and 4. Next, your percentile for each trait will be indicated alongside others; but here’s the catch, you’ll ranked with people who had lower scores than you did. For instance: “You’re in the 90th percentile of psychopathy … ” Do you think that’s too bad?
